Dragons' Den

Children presented their fairground rides to the "Dragons' Den" this morning and showed that their speaking skills are getting better and better. The presentations were brilliant and of a high standard. The children spoke clearly and confidently. They definitely gave the Dragons a hard time to choose a ride for investment.

Well done all!

Community Art Project - Exhibition 12th December 2013 at TX

This week the Year 6 pupils, along with their community partner school, Poussieres de Vie, created a fantastic exhibition of their art work in the foyer. The project has been based around traditional Vietnamese art styles; the children working on a range of pieces which looked fantastic on display. The TX children have worked and mixed very well with the children from Poussieres de Vie over the course of the project and can be very proud of the fact that sales of merchandise will buy educational resources for their community partners. Enthusiastically selling badges, cards and stickers, along with the pieces of art themselves, the amount raised far exceeded expectations. Obviously many of them have a bright future in sales! Thanks must go to Ms Charlie for her creativity as well as Ms Hong Anh, Ms Duyen and Ms Claire for their hard work in making this such a great event.

Community Art Project

Exhibition 12th December 2013 at TX

This term the Year 6 pupils have been very busy with their community partner school, Poussieres de Vie; working hard on an Art project under the skillful guidance of Ms Charlie. The project has been based around traditional Vietnamese art styles and has seen the children work enthusiastically to produce some excellent pieces. As this project draws to a close, the work that the children have completed is to be displayed in the foyer at TX on Thursday 12th December from 7:30am until 2:00pm. Each class will get the opportunity to visit the exhibition throughout the day, where Year 6 children will guide visitors around and explain the methods used. Parents will be able to visit the exhibition when they are in school from 7:30 onwards.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed working with their community partners and can be very proud, not only of the work they have produced, but also how well they have worked and mixed with the children from Poussieres de Vie. Aside from meeting new friends and developing their art skills, the very serious aim to the project was to raise funds to buy art resources for the Poussieres de Vie children. In order to do this, at the exhibition there will be the chance for children and parents to buy postcards, stickers and greetings cards produced from the children’s art work, as well as the once in a lifetime opportunity to buy the original art works themselves, at incredibly reasonable prices. All the items would make fantastic Christmas presents for lucky family members and friends.

In order to purchase from the exhibition, children need to buy tokens from the Year 6 children in the foyer before school next week in the build-up to Thursday’s exhibition. These can then be ‘spent’ when the children visit the exhibition. The cheapest items will be sold for 10000vnd with other items costing 20000 and 30000vnd. It should be remembered that the sale is to make money for our community partners not TX. The Year 6 children thank you for your support.

Well done to our newest Yellow Ribbon winners!

Congratulations Hung! Star of the Week!

Today in ICT Year 6 students improved their Digital citizenship aide memoirs by focusing on the finer points of graphic design. Jinee and Chow from BIS graphics and design team came to TX campus to work with the students. soon the Year 6 Networkers in action will be around the school reminding us all about Digital citizen, and good citizenship. look out for their posters.

Both Jinee and Chow offered really good advise about design techniques and elements of design which were:

  • Balance. The most important message is in the biggest font, the second message in a smaller font
  • Space. Space your text out, so the messages aren't fighting with each other for space and prominence.
  • Colour. Use striking and contracting colours. Red  and black are good
  • Easy to read. Try a different shape
  • Persuasive. Dominant message should be big and bold
  • Fonts. Stay with one font.
  • Eye catching. Be creative
  • KIS. Keep it simple.

Dear Parents,

The children at TX are encouraged to take home books to read. One of the books your child brings home will be a book from a structured reading scheme which will be labelled as BB followed by a level. Please can you check that your child only has ONE of these reading books at home. If you have any extra books at home, they must be brought back to school by the end of this week.

So that we can monitor the books more carefully, children can no longer change reading books from the structured reading scheme before or after school. This will happen during school time and children will need to sign in and out books or they will be changing books under adult supervision.

It is important that we have enough books for all children to take home and I appreciate your support in this matter.

If you have any queries please contact me.

Year 6 students have been using mind mapping software in ICT and manipulating ideas with the intent of developing an aide memoire for digital citizenship at Tu Xuong Campus.

Today each group took their 6 best slogans or phrases and worked with these in Publisher to create the digital citizenship poster. The students are working really well collaborating, creating and communicating with each other, putting together some powerful messages.

Next week Jinee from BIS graphics and design department will come to talk through the finer details of design to improve the authentics of the messages on the poster, so the created posters will be powerful, eyecatching and delivering a strong message around our campus.

This morning, Year 6 and F3 children had a blast making Pingu from plasticine.Year 6 children had proved that they are capable of helping and guiding the younger children. At the end, F3 children were delightful that they have an army of  "Pingu" penguins to accompany them for rest of the week.

Two mysterious "Pingu" are hiding among Year 6. Did you see them?

Year 6 Inspiration

Year 6 students have been using a mind mapping/ brain storming / planning programme called Inspiration to create, collate, and manipulate their ideas towards our new digital citizenship aide memoire. Today both classes, used the mind map
side of the software to record their statements. This was quite a difficult challenge as we tried to take a negative statement eg Don't hack and turn it into a positive statement eg Hacking is horrendous

Using the mind mapping part of Inspiration allocates a coloured strand to every statement written. This is a useful tool for grouping and collating similar statements and a very useful tool for the students who are visual learners. The colours help the brain to visualise, to learn and to group. Great work today Year 6

Taking the effect of the plane weight, the gravity, the air resistance and the stability of the plane, Y6 worked hard and came up with some brilliant ideas.

Some models proved to be more successful than others ^^ Well done everyone.

Book Week Parade

Book Week has been fantastic. There have been many activities throughout the week and the children have enjoyed all of them along with their reading books.

To complete the week, the parade this morning was both fabulous and colourful. Children and teachers came to school dressed as one of their favourite book characters. Well done to all children who made such a good effort dressing up.

Thursday, 3 October 2013

Year 6 students created book reviews on the library blog today. All blogs are held out in "the cloud" so Year 6 were able to use a number of strategies, skills and devices to write and post their reviews. Some worked in the classroom, some in the library, and others used their mobile devices, iPads and smart phones.

As blogs are held in in the cloud, the students could use anytime, anywhere learning, and log on from various places and spaces around the school to access their work on the blog. The students with their devices had even more flexibility.

Some students used cameras to take and download their images, while others used their iPads. Students were able to peer check the reviews. Nicholas was a popular post checker as he gave very positive feed back.

Whatever the device and where ever the place Year 6 wrote some fabulous reviews. Check out the book reviews on the library blog.

PDV Community Project

Once again, the children enjoyed their time and the activities with the children from PDV. Hopes are high for many art masterpieces to come to come out of the visits. These will be displayed and some may be bought at the TX / PDV Art Exhibition later in the term Details to follow...

Liz Million

Liz Million, an illustrator for children's book came to school yesterday and helped us to improve our drawing skills. We got to witness how quickly she could draw a mean leopard in action within minutes. It was brilliant! Using skills and tips from Liz Million, it's now our turn to create our own aliens for our Science Fiction stories.

Trip to PDV

This afternoon, half the children from 6X made a trip to visit Poussiere de Vie in district 12. The children had a blast painting and playing musical statues together.
The Year 6 children now have a better idea of how their community friends' lives are and hopefully, realise that they should appreciate what they have.

Moon Festival Parade!

Congrats to  Diana for winning the "Best Lantern Competition".

Year 6 are creating a virtual tour of TX Campus, and making QR codes to put outside the various rooms on the tour. Each week the students who are able bring in their virtual devices and use the device for this work. Today Andre took his iPad to the swimming pool and filmed the pool facility to upload onto the virtual tour wiki.
It was quite amazing to watch the video clip synchronously from the iPad and also from the wiki.
